Soul II Soul
Soul II Soul, the iconic 90’s musical collective, was founded and led by prominent DJ and Producer Jazzie B.
Jazzie B connected with Founder Simon Goff through a mutual respect for music and design. A long-standing fan of Soul II Soul, with their groundbreaking track ‘Back to Life’ very much a soundtrack to his youth, Goff offered to create a rug for Jazzie B and the idea of transforming the eponymous Funki Dred logo into a FLOOR_STORY rug was borne.
Experimentation took place with various techniques, landing on the tufted quality favoured by Jazzie B when he visited the FLOOR_STORY showroom to colour-match and refine the design. Varying pile heights created definition and depth across the Funki Dred logo.
The final rugs have been produced in colourways inspired by those used on artwork from the Soul II Soul catalogue, and at least one rug will feature in Jazzie’s own London home, a space he describes as eclectic in style and filled with things he loves.
