Marvel at this Morris
You've got to love this William Morris rug that's about to be auctioned at Sotheby's
Given that the William Morris museum is just round the corner to our E17 postcode, we were intrigued to hear through Hali Publication's Facebook page that this Morris & Co hand-knotted rug will soon be heating up Sotheby's auction room. Walthamstow born and the man considered responsible for the revival of traditional textile arts in Britain through the Arts & Crafts movement, the William Morris name is just as popular today.
Made back at the turn of the 20th Century and designed by Pre-Raphaeliite Brotherhood influenced John Henry Deale, trained by Morris himself, this 'Hammersmith' carpet is truly intricate and it's quite incredible to think this was hand-knotted over 100 years ago. We dread to think how long it took to make and are certain that it will make a fair few bob for its seller!
