rug _story

Inspired by the tree symbol of Senegal, to which its inhabitants lend miraculous virtues and magical powers, Baobab reflects the forms of the celebrated tree.

Over a century of skill and craftsmanship is woven into every rug produced. Woven onto Jacquard Wilton looms with cotton chenille yarns, each rug has multiple layers of textures, distressed areas and intricate stitching detail to give a true 'vintage' look.

The rug is hand finished with reinforced corners and an anti-slip layer for a secure fit.

This rug is made by our supplier based in Belgium, who are working hard to create fully circular (recycled and recyclable) rugs. This rug is made with 100% polyester threads, of which 20% is currently recycled or rPET. By the end of 2024, the goal is to increase this % to a minimum of 80% rPET. This rug can be returned to the supplier to be recycled at the end of its useful life.

Jacquard

Invented in 1804 by Frenchman, Joseph Marie Jacquard, the original Jacquard head simplified the process of machine making complex patterns through a number of punched cards ‘chained' together in sequence.

Each card featured a number of punched holes to form a single row of the pattern and the chain could be as long as needed, helping Jacquard equipped looms to produce some really fantastic and surprisingly intricate designs. Now with digital control, modern-day electronic Jacquard machines are computer-controlled, significantly reducing the downtime with changing traditional card machines, avoiding the necessity for repeats and showing almost complete versatility in creating pattern. By far the best way to machine make rugs, electronic Jacquard rug making speeds-up production dramatically, helping to bring beautiful design at a really competitive price point.
