What Henry describes as ‘one of the first things I knew I wanted to do in our home and it didn’t disappoint’. We’d have to wholeheartedly agree. The original FLOOR_STORY x Henry Holland Studio Melting Runner was made for this type of install. What we developed alongside the original was a bespoke version to fit Henry’s and husband David's three flight staircase, seamlessly melting into each landing space.

In the world of interiors, creating a seamless blend of art and functionality is a true accomplishment. The primary goal was to custom fit the Henry Holland Studio x FLOOR_STORY melting runner into a three-floor staircase and landing, ensuring it complemented the elegant architecture of a Victorian-era home.

THIS MELTING RUG WAS ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS I KNEW I WANTED TO DO IN OUR HOME AND IT DIDN'T DISAPPOINT.

Design Concept:

The melting runner design was chosen for its dynamic and artistic appeal, creating a visual flow that captures attention while moving between floors.

A hand-made tufting process was employed to ensure each piece of the runner was crafted with detail and precision.

Customisation:

Measurements were meticulously taken for each step and landing to ensure the rug would fit perfectly.

The rug was custom-cut and shaped to maintain its artistic 'melting' effect, even as it traversed corners and varied step dimensions.

Installation:

Expert rug installers worked carefully to lay the runner, ensuring each section melted into place as planned.

Special attention was given to the rug's alignment with the home's intricate woodwork and period details.

Result

The result is a mesmerising, hand-made, tufted rug that winds down the staircase with an effortless flow, fitting with precision to 'melt' seamlessly on each landing. The rug not only enhances the home's aesthetics but also adds a layer of luxury and modern artistry.

We also love the choice of paint on the wooden flooring in a charcoal black with a beautiful gloss finish which really contrasts with the texture of the matt wool finish of the rug but elevating the waved and striped lines through a cohesive palette. Paired with fabrics from the Henry Holland Studio x Harlequin collection and a curated selection of John Booth artworks, this space perfectly captures Henry’s graphical and delightfully detailed style.

There's no denying this rug's impact stylistically and technically. Explore the melting runner options below, and get in touch if you're interesting in customising it for your space.
